Will his product clone a drive that has more than 1 partition?

Accepted Answer

Yes. It is a sector by sector transfer so it will clone the drive exactly as it is to the other drive. Remember that, because if you are copying a 320GB drive with 3 partitions that are half full of data to a 1TB drive, then when done cloning, the 1 TB drive will have only those 3 partitions equaling 320GB and will leave the left over space unused.

what does the power level mean ? does it have a battery or something ?

Ah! I believe you were confused with the indicators. There are "power" on LED and disc copy completion "rate" (in %) LED indicator, and are not related directly!  There is no battery in this unit, you need to plug in the AC adapter to get it to work. Copy completion rate LED only light up when you are doing disc copy, otherwise, only power on LED will be lighted when you using the unit!

Not only will it work for cloning, you don't even need to install it. It will clone a drive with no intervention. I can run stand-alone, drive to drive.

does it work with all hard drives?

All hard drives that support SATA will work on this.  Duplication will require the target drive to be the same size or larger than the source drive.  (We are talking physical drive, not partition).

Does it works with USB 2?

I only used this product as a stand-alone.  Pulled my failing HD out of laptop, put it in this thing with the new HD as well, pushed the button, some lights started flashing, not at all like described in the manual, and it copied old 5400 rpm HD to new 7200 rpm drive flawlessly.  I seem to remember 3 lights.  One begins flashing, then after awhile two will be flashing, and then 3 flashing until it finished copying.  Or maybe they do this as a solid lights without flashing.  I just know it did not look like what was described in the manual.  My guess would be that it would work with USB 2, since most things are backward compatible from 3 to 2.

Will this work for hard drives that have been in a windows pc to access files when hooked up to a Macbook?

There should be no problem with hooking this up to a mac.  OSX will read NTFS with no problem - and has for quite some time - but you'll have to purchase some software to be able to write.  Paragon makes good software for this as does Transmac.  I purchased Paragon "NTFS for OSX" on sale for a great price so keep your eyes out!

Does the stand alone cloning function create the same partitions as the source drive?

Yes but the destination drive must be the same capacity or bigger than the source drive to use this device.

Will this work with two 3TB HDDs in RAID-0?

The chip in this unit does not support any hardware RAID (such as those in multi-drive NAS), you could do software RAID but speed of the USB will disappoint you.

are the drives continuously spinning as long as it's powered or does it have a smart chip that stops it when idle ?

I just put my ear close to a drive. I hear quiet "hsssss". Apparently, it is spinning up.
When I access to a drive,  I did not see a delay.

Question 10

1) does this support 4TB?
2) can two drives be accessed separately in the computer as if two externals were plugged in through two USB ports ?

1) Yes, it does. II have a 4Tb drive there right now; 2) When you connect the dock via USB-3.0, the system shows two separate drives.
