1. This is Samsung’s VR Headset by Chris Ziegler at The Verge

Samsung will be showing its rumored virtual reality headset at its upcoming product event in early September, The Verge has learned, where the company is widely expected to announce the Galaxy Note 4. The headset — codenamed “Project Moonlight” — appears to be a bit like Google’s Cardboard, a box with lenses that can effectively turn a smartphone display into an immersive world.

2. New iPhone to Have Sapphire Screen, Higher Price by Stan Schroeder at Mashable

Apple’s upcoming iPhone — or iPhones — will have a sapphire screen instead of a glass one, and it will likely come with a higher price tag than its predecessor.

3. Sprint May Cut Prices by Antoine Gara at The Street

Sprint may soon aggressively cut its wireless prices under Marcelo Claure, according to analysts who have met with the telecom’s incoming CEO. Claure could time Sprint’s price cuts with Apple’s rollout of the iPhone 6, which is expected this fall.

Xiaomi, which was recently named the biggest smartphone maker in China for Q2 2014, recently launched its latest flagship — the $320 Mi4. The phone is less than a month old, but it already seems to be generating buzz among some tech bloggers who managed to get their hands on it.

There were a lot of rumblings going on in the mobile industry this week. As more people around the globe are adapting to smartphone technology, companies are adamantly trying to figure out ways to lure customers away from the competition. Whether it’s by introducing a phone with high-end specs or making a radical change to their marketing strategy, one thing is clear: Smartphone companies want your business.
