5 iPhone 6 Rumors I Hope Are True

By September 5, 2014No Comments

The rumor mill has been swirling for months and tech-enthusiasts everywhere are speculating about all the things Apple will unveil at next week’s special event. And whether you’re a die-hard Android junkie or a dedicated Apple fan, we all have one thing in common: We’re excited to see the iPhone 6.

While Apple hasn’t “officially” declared September 9th to be the release date for the new iPhone, fans are already lining up in anticipation of the big day. Apple has never released a version of their flagship device on the day it was announced, but the iPhone 6 promises to be very different than before. So different that it has everyone spreading rumors about what we can expect.

Multiple models, bigger screens, and better specs are just some of the things we have to look forward to with the iPhone 6. Here is a roundup of the five rumors we all hope come true next week:

Rumor #1: The iPhone 6 Will Be Available in Two Bigger Screen Sizes

For years now, iPhone users have watched in awe as their Android friends enjoyed a large and glorious display. In fact, the tiny 4-inch screen is what prompted me to switch over to Android in the first place. But now that the iPhone will be just as big, if not bigger than most Android phones, will it prompt people to make the switch?

4.7- and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Confirmed by New Report
by Sebastian Anthony at Extreme Tech

“The iPhone 6 will come in two sizes, one with a 4.7-inch screen, the other with a 5.5-inch screen. Unlike the iPhone 4 and 5, which were sharp-edged rectangles, the 6 will have “softer, tapered edges” — a bit like the iPad Air and Mini, in other words. There’s no word on screen resolution, but I would guess that the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will have a 1920×1080 display, while the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 might step up to 2560×1440 (just like the LG G3 smartphone).”

Rumor #2: The iPhone 6 Will be Released Alongside the iWatch

Now that every major smartphone manufacturer also makes a smartwatch, it’s time for Apple to show us what they’ve been hiding up their sleeve (literally!). Smartwatches are no longer dependent on smartphones and it will be interesting to see how the iWatch interacts with other iOS devices. Will Apple be the company that makes wearing a smartwatch cool?

by Neil Hughes at Apple Insider

“It’s been claimed that the wrist-worn device will come in two-different sizes, potentially intended for both men and women. Multiple recent reports have suggested the “iWatch” will miss the lucrative holiday shopping season, and will become available to customers in early 2015.”

Rumor #3: The iPhone 6 Will Look Nothing Like an iPhone

The iPhone’s design hasn’t changed much over the years, yet it’s still the most popular phone in America. Many industry insiders believe that the iPhone 6 will not only be bigger, but will also feature a radically different look than ever before. Will this be the greatest smartphone design ever?

New iPhone 6 Images Depict Rear Shell and Front Panel Together for the First Time
by Juli Clover at Mac Rumors

“With its softly rounded corners and redesigned pill-shaped volume buttons, the iPhone 6 closely resembles the style of the iPad mini, iPad Air, and newest iPod touch. Shell images also suggest the iPhone 6 will adopt redesigned speaker holes, a round True Tone flash, an embedded Apple logo, and a relocated right-side power button for easier one-handed use.”

Rumor #4: The iPhone 6 Will Replace our Credit Cards

Carrying our money on plastic cards may soon become obsolete. And while some people think we’ll all eventually be using a digital currency like Bitcoin, using our smartphone makes a lot more sense. Apple convinced the world to listen to music in MP3 format; can they convince us to store our money on our iPhone too?

Apple’s Latest Patent All But Confirms Plans To Build An All-In-One Digital Wallet
by Keith Griffith at Business Insider

“A newly public patent application from Apple describes detailed backend architecture for a mobile wallet designed to hold digital credit, debit cards and coupons issued by a range of merchants and financial institutions. The filing describes the system as capable of powering mobile transactions conducted via QR codes, the cloud, and contactless NFC (near field communication). It’s also explicitly engineered to handle large bursts of traffic, such as can occur on a so-called ‘launch day’ of a client device.”

Rumor #5: The iPhone 6 Will Come With iOS 8 and We’ll be Able to Jailbreak It

The first thing I’m going to do if I get an iPhone 6 is figure out how to jailbreak it. I’m not saying I don’t enjoy using Android, but a jailbroken version of iOS allows you to experience the best of both worlds. Will hackers be ready for iOS 8?

iOS 8 Appears Open to Jailbreaking, But…
by Lance Whitney at CNET

“The whole effort to jailbreak iOS devices plays like a cat-and-mouse game between Apple and the hacking community. Apple attempts to shore up the guts of iOS in an effort to prevent jailbreaking, which it considers a violation of the end-user software license agreement. Hackers try to circumvent those built-in defenses to jailbreak the iPhone and iPad, a process that lets users customize their iOS devices and run unsupported apps. A new version of iOS, especially a beta version, represents a tasty treat to hackers, who quickly vie to be the first out with a fresh jailbreak.”

No matter what smartphone you use today, Apple paved the way for the technology when they released the first iPhone in 2007. Their design not only influenced the competition, it also singlehandedly shaped the way we interact with our mobile devices. We can’t predict if the iPhone 6 will revolutionize the smartphone industry again, but if some of these rumors are true, it will pave the way for the future of mobile technology.

What rumors do you hope are true for the iPhone 6?
