Samsung has officially announced their next unveiling event and has inevitably sent rumors swirling around the internet as to what’s in store. On February 24th, the Korean conglomerate is poised to present some of the most sought-after consumer electronics at the world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry. As the current leader in information technology, Samsung is certain to capture the attention of tech enthusiasts when they “unpack” whatever’s in that box at The Mobile World Congress.

The Mobile World Congress is the premier event for smartphone industry insiders. Last year over 72,000 people attended the occasion and 1,700 exhibitors utilized nearly 25 acres of floor space to showcase the latest advances in mobile technology. Taking place in Barcelona between February 24th and 27th, the global tradeshow will be the location for the highly anticipated Samsung Event being billed as Unpacked 5: Episode 1.

Samsung is describing the event as “low key” and will try to shake off the debacle from last year’s  hour-long Galaxy S4 launch that elicited some negative feedback for its portrayal of women. Although Samsung hasn’t officially announced what the “5” in Unpacked 5 refers to, it is widely believed that the world will get their first look at the Galaxy smartphone. There have been several rumors surrounding the flagship device and it appears we will finally be able to put some of those to rest.

The biggest speculation about the Samsung Galaxy S5 is that it will feature two new technologies: an iris scanner to protect the phone from identity theft and an ultra-high resolution Quad HD display. Neither of these features has been confirmed by Samsung but there are some upgrades we can probably count on including a better camera and a higher-performance processor. Other new products from the manufacturer will probably be “unpacked” as well.

Among the other gadgets most consumers are anxious for is an update to the Galaxy Gear smartwatch which has been met with mixed reviews. There is plenty of room for improvement to the watch which has users complaining about a simple design and a lack of compatible apps. The watch has been used as a companion to Samsung smartphones and tablets but with the rumored Galaxy Glass on the horizon it will be interesting to see if the two devices will also have the ability to work together.

Unveiling events have turned into massive spectacles that not only tease consumers with new gadgets, but also set trends for other tech companies to follow. Unpacked 5 promises to be a great demonstration of where the future is heading and if you’re not able to make it to Barcelona you can still watch the exhibition via Samsung’s YouTube channel. Regardless of the Galaxy S5 showing up, one thing is certain: I’ll be watching.
