How to Convert Your Home to Solar Power

By February 21, 2014No Comments

Converting your home or small business to be completely solar powered may not be feasible for most people. While the costs have been reportedly going down in recent years, enhanced by various state tax credits, affordable financing options, and the rise in popularity, the conversion process and the long-term commitment often keeps sun power out of reach. But for those of us who live in the southwestern parts of the States, it just makes good sense to tap into the sun’s inexhaustible energy supply.

Hopefully, the next generation of homes and commercial buildings will be able to affordably integrate solar energy as a standard feature. But until that time, we can still start small. The options for small-scale solar energy use are rapidly increasing and entrepreneurs are getting more and more creative. That’s where Newegg comes in…again!

Newegg and its Marketplace Vendors have a host of Solar Powered gadgets to light up your life and reduce your energy costs in the areas of home décor, mobile device powering, and just plain fun! Tech, toys, holiday decorations, and loads of other creative ideas are just a click away. Check out these great items – we’re sure something will grab your attention and help you leave the grid a little bit.

Gadgets/Tech:
Still use a solar powered Casio calculator from 1986? My wife does! But oh, we’ve come so far since then! Charge your iPhone at the window seat of your favorite coffee shop with one of these pocket-sized devices. For you outdoorsy types, it’s a good idea to have a charger like this one around. It’s about $30, and it could make all the difference if you can’t get back to base camp. Back inside where it’s safe, Logitech can outfit you with a great wireless solar computer keyboard. Here’s one for you Apple fans, too.

Backyard Décor:
Why buy decorations and then keep paying to use them? Set up a memorable outdoor BBQ this weekend with some of these lights. Our very own Rosewill Brand can hook you up with some $25 solar powered string lights – good for Christmas or anytime – and forget about ugly extension cords or power strips. You can even bless the little birdies in the yard 24/7 with a Solar Powered LED Saint Francis Garden Statue! Awesome!

Toys:
I’ve saved the best for last, though. Techy DIYers can find enlightening and educational possibilities for the whole family. Like this three-in-one solar energy vehicle kit. Try your hand at some challenging and environmentally-friendly construction with this six-in-one kit for building solar powered robots.

Newegg wants to help you tap into the the light from above. Let us know what you do with the power from the sun.
