ZTE is mostly known for their line of pre-paid cell phones through providers like Boost Mobile, Cricket, and MetroPCS. But now they’re striking out on their own, hoping to compete with the smartphone big boys with their new Axon and Axon Pro smartphones. The company stopped by the Newegg offices to show off the new phones (and brought a truckload of tacos along with them).

The Axon and Axon Pro phones are equipped with 5.5” screens, a dual camera lens (13MP and 2MP), 8MP selfie camera, and the ability to record in 4K Ultra hi-def video. The phones come with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop installed and with 32GB of storage.

What’s the difference between the Axon and the Axon Pro? The Axon is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S800 2.0 GHz Quad-Core chip and 2GB of RAM, while the Axon Pro is rocking a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 2.0GHz Octa-Core chip and 4GB of RAM.

What makes these phones standout from the rest of the competition, however, is the hi-fi sound and audio recording features. ZTE worked hard on giving the phone high-fidelity sound, with hopes of bring a fuller and purer sound quality to your music and videos. The phone is also fitted with twin microphones and noise suppression technology that assists in bringing a clearer sound when recording phone calls or concert footage.

The phones are unlocked GSM phones and start at $299.99.

By the way…the tacos, provided by Pho-King-Awesome, were delicious.
